InProgress... Designs' Websites

  • Meridian Music. Piano sales and service featuring Steinway and Yamaha instruments. This site is saturated with textual and media content, but was all but destroyed by an SEO. Those types of companies focus on three to five phrases they feel are important, but then neglect the rest of what the company actually offers. This design is fully XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant and displays the same in every browser. Flash content - which I'm not a huge fan of - is limited to video segments recorded by the staff and a few that were recoded from promotional materials. Irrelevant "keyword stuffing" was removed and lengthy texts were broken down into sections across multiple pages instead of the five pages the site started with. The menus were created with JavaScript. The primary links work even if JavaScript is disabled.
  • Maurice Woolfolk. An older site of mine. I broke the "rules" and made a Flash intro. I slightly repaired the video that is displayed - as best I could. I am - by no means - a professional video editor, but he did like the results. Flash intros aren't as "evil" as SEO companies tell you they are... they just won't be the primary page found by the search engines. I told the client this, and he didn't care as he wanted it to look cool. Again, XHTML 1.0 Strict. Looks the same in every browser.
  • New Creation. Essentially a "fan site". I created theirs ages ago but have since revamped it with some very interesting artwork and graphics by my good friend Andy. My source code is extremely good, but my graphics are not always up to par. As you'll see, he makes a rather unique addition to a site. It FEELS like Flash, but all of the effects are done in JavaScript. As always, XHTML 1.0 Strict.
  • Faten Munger. Again, an older site. Graphic use was on the simpler side of things, but I thought it looked pretty decent when I was finished. She says she'll be wanting an upgrade here pretty soon based on how she's seen my newer work come to fruition.
  • Catering by Noura. Faten Munger's sister and her have decided to take up catering. This site isn't entirely finished since they claim they'll be taking pictures of some dishes to add to this, but the full menu is now up for perusal. When you hear all of that noise about "Web 2.0", they're talking about the rounded corners. The unfortunate part about being "Web 2.0" is that Internet Explorer 6 can't handle the transparency and will show a white boxed corner around the round portions... that's why I don't do that very often. That browser is slowly losing popularity, however. A site like this one should be safe to create.
  • Luxor Restaurant. The oldest of the sites I've made. I went back over it to validate the code. Very plain. The Flash menus aren't very fun (and they're out-dated). I also need newer pictures of the restaurant. The site is slated for an overhaul. The only change I've made to it in the last several years was to change the name from it's old one Cafe Trevi to Cafe Luxor... and it's actually called Luxor Restaurant but that wasn't carved in stone when we bought the URL.

All of the above sites are coded on the open source PHP framework CodeIgniter. Most effects were generated by the open source JavaScript framework MooTools.
